IMPACTO Ministry Update -- April 20, 2011

Greetings to all!

Good things are happening with Impacto!  Teams have been working hard as always this year and many people have been blessed.  Souls have been won for the Kingdom and God continues to bless.

The People’s Church in Guatemala City is growing and the congregation is really coming alive and hard at work to reach others for Christ.  Pastor Luis has been working closely with them and encouraging everyone to bring someone each Sunday to worship.  Palm Sunday was a special time of celebration and everyone was challenged to bring a friend.  Pastor Luis gave the invitation after preaching and eight souls come to Christ!  The presence of God was felt by everyone present.  Impacto is hoping to raise funding and have a team (or teams) come to help with much-needed construction at The People’s Church.  The church is located in a very fast-growing area and the people really want to reach souls for Christ.  They also want to learn how to do church programs so that they do not have to depend on anyone but can be self-sufficient, with God’s help.

Work at the Promised Land is progressing (see photographs) and the eating/meeting patio area should be completed by June.  The North English Christian Church team spent a day of hard work helping to complete work on the foundation for the patio.  Many thanks to them for their help.  Work will begin on cabins shortly and hopefully we will be able to start using the Promised Land by late summer. Praise the Lord!  If your team wants to come help built a cabin or if you’d like to make a donation towards materials for one, please let us know.

Plans are underway for a Pastors Conference to be held this August.  Impacto has commitments from Dr. Norman Wilson, Rev. Jarvis and Sue Ferguson, Rev. Mike Hilson, Rev. Dan Jones, and Mr. Chris Wagnon to lead sessions during the Conference.  Pastors, their spouses, and lay leaders will attend.  The Pastors have been asking for training in many areas.  This Conference will concentrate on stewardship, sermon preparation, church administration, Christian discipline, leadership.  We are hopeful that Sue Ferguson will lead a special session for the Pastors wives.  Contributions to off-set costs for the local pastors and lay-leaders would be greatly appreciated.

Tony, Andrea and Luis Daniel Mendez now live in San Juan.  In addition to their work with Impacto, they are working and developing programs to put into action with the lake area churches.  Tony is now in charge of coordinating the work and compassion projects of Impacto teams and Andrea is helping to answer questions by email to leaders and is in charge of sending out updates through Impacto’s Facebook page.

Ana Martinez graduates on April 30th with a BA degree from Indiana Wesleyan University.  She majored in Intercultural Studies with an International & Community Development minor.  We are all so very proud of her and congratulate her on this wonderful accomplishment!

Additionally, Pastor Luis has accepted an invitation from IWU President Smith to give the Baccalaureate on April 29th for Ana’s graduating class at IWU.  This is an honor and special privilege for both Pastor Luis and Ana.  It will be something they both will always remember.  Please be in prayer for both Pastor Luis as he delivers the Baccalaureate sermon and for Ana and her classmates as they complete this milestone in their lives.

If you would like to bring a team please contact Sarah Poythress at spoythress@newlifelaplata.org.
